While I sometimes call this piece, “Hair,” I think its true name is “Guilt.” Guilt grows from the mind and can consume the mind. It weighs you down, makes you a prisoner, and immobilizes you. But it’s not something you can just cut off— there’s an emotional attachment to that feeling of guilt, a strange sense of responsibility as if you deserve it, the bondage and suffering. Because you should have known better. Because you could have avoided it. Because you would have done something different if you knew that this would be the outcome. It grows and grows and grows.
